1. How long have you been spinning, and what inspired the decision?

"I've been spinning for 3 years now. A love for music, as cliched as it may sounds, is what inspired to become a dj. Being able to make people go nuts over music that you love is a crazy feeling."

2. What were you doing before you started your career?

"I was at University in Glasgow (Scotland), I did one year of Physiotherapy before I realised I really didn't want to do that. I then wanted to do a music related course but the one I wanted to do was far too expensive so my dad suggested I go back to the same University and study a generic course like Business Studies. I did this for maybe 8 months but it was soul destroying. A lot of people on the course had no drive and determination and could only see as far as getting drunk that weekend at the student union, that's when I realized I had to move to London and take the djing seriously.
"

3. Is there anyone who look up to in your craft, and why?

"I look up to Dj Naeem, he was like my mentor while I lived in Scotland. He was responsible for introducing R&B and Hip Hop into the clubs in Glasgow back in the day and he is and always has been at the forefront of any major event in that scene since. He taught me loads about Old School and the golden era R&B and Hip Hop, a lot of which I missed being only 20. He taught me about playing to a crowd, mixtapes and tons of other shit. I definitely look up to Naeem."

4. What does a normal day in the life of Yasmin Shahmir consist of?

"Sleeping, eating, listening to music (old & new), djing, sending emails, being on the phone. Exciting huh?!"

5. When your not working, what kind of things could you find yourself doing?

"Being with my friends, shopping, watching tv, going to the cinema. Normal stuff!"

6. Who in your opinion is making the biggest impact in music today?

"The consumer. They're responsible for putting people at number one, inspiring (or forcing) artists to make music for them to buy and not necessarily music that the artist wants. Will artists admit that? Probably not."

7. I've notice from pictures that you have a huge amount of fashion sense, how much are you into fashion?

"I love clothes, I really do. I have a lot of vintage stuff, that's probably my favourite way to buy, vintage. My best friend is possibly the most amazing stylist in the world, Leeann Mak (watch out for her), I take a lot of inspiration from her, she has an amazing style, is super confident and doesn't give a shit about what people think, I love that."

8. Via Twitter you've announced your love for Trey Songz on numerous occasions, have you ever met him?

"Hahahaha I don't LOVE, love him.... He's a pretty boy that can sing you love songs, any girl would be lying to say that's not attractive. Unfortunately I haven't had the pleasure of meeting Trey Songz as yet."

9. Who has been your favorite person to work with, and who do you hope to work in the future?

"I'm not sure! Tough one... In the future I'd love to work with Outkast, Teddy Riley, A-trak, too many people to mention!"

10. Describe your dream gig in 3 words.

"Big. Loud. Amazing."
